my cat is a bunny.

first off, i would like to ask if your cat looks like a bunny rabbit when he sleeps?ours does!

i am trying to clean up my studio this week. it's really hard! i feel like i have been really busy lately but i can't say i have a lot to show for it. here are some questions i get asked a lot nowadays:

q. when is steam city 2 coming out?
a. NEVER! actually, i have no idea when it is coming out. i am casually working on it, but i am not very far. i love walter & grant et al. but there were a lot of kinks in the production of steam city #1 that i want to fix before i really dive into #2.
i am currently working on an old story i wrote in college. it features human beings. i think i got annoyed with people thinking i only knew how to draw anthropomorphic animals. well, i'll show them!

q. what new things are you working on for holiday craft fairs?
a. i am just about finished penciling a new READ poster (i'm going to make a new one every year i think) which will debut at the SPACE craft fair (which is the only craft fair i'm doing this holiday season... too stressful!) which will take place december 4th & 5th. i'm also printing samurai owl sweatshirts. they are heather gray. the shirts just came in today. other than that, expect a few new cards and all the new prints & cards that came out in the autumn are still good!

i have been trying to organize my studio a bit better. i need more shelves or something. i wish my friend myles poland would just swing by for a day & we could put up shelves! i mean, i could do it myself but for some reason it seems easier to do with a carpenter around.

i just finished (literally just finished) this postcard that you will recieve if someone gets you a gift membership to SPACE gallery!

the front is basically what SPACE might look like if it was in steam city... what did walter get grant?

and the back is some nicely hand lettered information with a light drawing on the back. i'm a sucker for pictures behind text. grant is so happy!

so... get someone a gift membership to SPACE! they are super duper.

wedding invites.

my friends myles and brooke got married in blue hill in late august and asked me to make wedding invitations for them. this was something i had never done before (people are always asking me if i've ever done wedding invitations and i always just say no) and had never bothered to really try to get into but i figured i'd rather have them get me do it than some random person who didn't know them.

they wanted invites that would fold open from the middle. we came up with a kind of forest theme on the outside & then a meadow kind of setting on the inside. i thought 'no problem!' uh...

anyway, to be perfectly honest the whole time i was drawing this it didn't look good enough to me. i think part of the reason is that i was doing this job for my good friends & i really didn't want to think of the wedding as the wedding i made those weird looking invites. i ended up walking around the woods a bit & practicing drawing trees & ferns better. but i knew i was doing my best & that i should trust my gut & that it would all make sense when it was done. when i printed out the first prototype, i was very pleasantly surprised... i am always a happy camper when i am unsure of something for a bit & just trust my gut & believe that it'll look ok in the end.

here's how the invitation looked when you took it out of the envelope (sorry about my finger):

here's the outside all folded out:

then when you open it up it looks like this:

these invitations were printed on old green speckletone french paper cardstock & had matching old green speckletone envelopes.
this was the last job printed on my EPSON CX3810 which has faithfully served me for 5 years. if you have any kind of card from me from the past few years up until this fall that isn't screenprinted it was printed by the 3810 and handcut by myself. i guess 5 years is a lot to ask from a printer you put to the limit almost everyday! i literally drove this thing to the ground.

i disassembled the CX3810 to see if it was worth saving (it was not) & i salvaged some interesting parts. the motherboard is hanging on the wall in my studio. now i have a WORKFORCE 600 which is a lot more serious than the 3810. it doesn't laugh at my jokes.

anyway, i now am ready & willing to do wedding invitations. just get in touch.

ALSO: i am also going to start painting walls with latex housepaint & acrylics. let me know if this interests you.
